Our tables are named after the legendary nordic ski races that occur every winter in Northern Wisconsin. The North American Birkebeiner is modeled after the historic rescue of the young Danish Prince Haaken in the 8th century. Two soldiers strapped the infant in a sling and skiied 80K to safety through the mountains of what is now Norway.
Every year, this is celebrated as an event in the International World Loppet Series with a ski marathon that runs from Cable to Hayward Wisconsin. Olympians and civilians alike test their mettle in the middle of a Wisconsin winter. The shorter of the two races is the Kortelopet, and the full marathon is the Birkebeiner. We honor that heritage (and our own) with these tables. Crafted in the Scandanavian style, and ready to add a delightful mix of finesse, staying power and natural heft to any home.
